Police state that Clements was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He drove his Dodge into westbound lanes of Interstate 74 going eastbound. This was where he came into contact with a semi-truck and crashed into it head-on.
Traffic had to be diverted through Kickapoo because of the amount of time it took to clear the scene. The semi and the Dodge had to be towed due to the damage. The interstate was shut down for several hours because of this.
The driver of the semi came out unscathed and has cooperated fully with the police investigation.
The Illinois State Police have also issued citations for Clements for driving the wrong way on a one-way street, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed in avoidance of an accident, and for his vehicle being uninsured.
There have not been any new updates on Clements’ condition as of March 11.
The Illinois State Police are currently still investigating the accident. There has not been a blood-alcohol level released as of publication for Clements.
