40-year-old Ilya Foks has been sentenced to four years in state prison for his role in a fatal hit-and-run accident in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office revealed the punishment term in a press briefing on Tuesday, September 8th.

The charges emanated from a head-on collision on January 24th that killed 61-year-old Los Angeles resident, Rosa Lydia Garcia. Facts from the accident report showed that Foks operated an allegedly stolen BMW M4 westbound on Sunset Boulevard near Douglas Street and Dodger Stadium.
He veered into Sunset’s eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2004 Toyota Corolla driven by the victim. The Los Angeles Police Department said the man fled on foot without rendering help to Garcia. Medics took her to a hospital where she succumbed to her wounds.
The police said they could identify the then-suspect because he left his wallet and driver’s license behind. The LAPD Central Traffic Division arrested Foks four days later in San Fernando Valley’s North Hills area. County jail records show that he has been in custody since then.
Alongside the charges for Garcia’s death, the DA initially charged the defendant with two counts each of grand theft auto and burglary. There is no information on the charges at this time.
