The sheriff’s office has confirmed that two people have been killed as a result of the accident including a well-known Houston gospel singer LaTonya Earl who was driving a light-colored SUV. The other deceased was simply described as a Hispanic male who was driving a red sedan.
The exact scenario that caused the accident has not been established at this point. There is speculation that one of the vehicles was traveling northbound, drove over the wet cement, and lost control of their vehicle.
The vehicle then jumped the center median and hit an oncoming vehicle traveling southbound. Both cars were destroyed in the accident but will be determined in the reconstruction which vehicle was coming from which direction.
Both drivers were confirmed dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the cement truck tried to help by rendering aid when he realized what had happened.
The Sheriff’s Office said that it appeared as though the part of the cement truck that holds the wet cement was rotating in the wrong direction and that is why it leaked from the truck and onto the road.
Pastor Walter August of The Church at Bethel’s Family took to Facebook posting that Earl was a member of the congregation.
The cement truck driver has been fully cooperative with officials. The investigation as to all the details of the accident is still ongoing.
