The Redding Police Department, California, apprehended a hit-and-run driver involved in a traffic collision in the city on Wednesday, June 10th. They arrested city resident Hal Kimberly Sutherland, 33, for driving under the influence of illegal drugs causing injury, and fleeing the scene of an accident.
The crash report showed that at about 3:30 p.m., officers with the RPD arrived at Hilltop Drive near Peppertree Apartments after receiving a call about a hit-and-run accident. During the preliminary investigation, the officers discovered that Sutherland was heading south in a black Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The suspect then made a left turn on the roadway and collided with a white van head-on. The driver and passenger of the van sustained lacerations and received treatment at a local hospital. Sutherland abandoned his car and fled on foot, and officers began canvassing the area searching for him.
The RPD had the help of the California Highway Patrol Northern Division Air Operations, and together, they located the suspect, several blocks from the crash site. Officers said the man changed his clothes in an attempt to alter his appearance. He admitted he drove the Ford, and the investigators determined he was under the influence of a combination of illegal drugs.
The police booked the man into Shasta County Jail, and he is also facing a charge of violating the terms of his post-release community supervision. Sutherland would need representation from a car accident lawyer.
