Friday, February 28, officials identified an Oakland man who was killed in a motorcycle accident. The accident occurred on Wednesday at around 6:50 p.m.
Police investigators have determined that a 2017 Ford Expedition was traveling south on Claremont Avenue in the 5400 block. They made a U-turn at the Clifton Street intersection when they collided with a 1975 BMW Motorcycle. The motorcycle was driven by 61-year-old Clement Papazian.

Papazian was driving north on Claremont Avenue at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Ford was identified as a 26-year-old man from Berkeley. He stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. He was not injured in the accident.
When paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident, they attempted life-saving measures. Papazian was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The police are still investigating to determine if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision.
Reports did not indicate if Papazian was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. They did not specify if he was ejected from the bike due to the collision.
Papazian was a licensed clinical social worker. He was also the key leader for the National Union of Healthcare Workers’ Northern California unit.
He worked for Kaiser Permanente Oakland for the last 30 years. He helped found the National Union of Healthcare Workers.
Members of the union stated that Papazian will be impossible to replace. He had great knowledge and expertise, especially in his field.
Sources say that the accident that claimed the life of Papazian happened only a few blocks from his home.
The National Union of Healthcare Workers’ Northern California unit state that they will be preparing a video tribute to Papazian in the very near future.
