Dutmer sustained severe wounds that claimed his life at the scene, and the medics pronounced him. Mims, on the other hand, had life-threatening injuries, and she was transported to Butterworth Hospital for treatment using Aeromed. The sheriff’s office said that she remains in critical condition.
The investigation into the primary cause of the accident is ongoing, but the police believe that distracted driving played a vital role. The fatal crash led to the closure of the US-10 lanes, 5 Mile Road, and 110th Avenue from 10:10 p.m. to about 3:30 a.m. on Friday, May 8th.
The accident report showed that the sheriff’s office had the help of the Osceola County EMS, Evart Fire, and Rescue, and the Hersey Fire Department. Reed City Fire and Rescue, and the Michigan State Police also worked with local authorities at the scene.
