The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office identified the teenagers who died during the Fourth of July weekend in Sparks, Nevada. The updated accident report released on Tuesday, July 7th, revealed their names as Giovanni Oliva, 16, of Reno, and Justyn Lopez-Florez, 17, of Fernley.
According to the medical examiner, the victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and the cause of death remains under investigation. The call about the accident came in at about 3:05 a.m. on Saturday, July 4th.

The Sparks Police Department said that the incident happened on Sparks Boulevard just south of Baring Boulevard. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Oliva and Lopez-Flores in the wrecked car. Witnesses said that they saw the vehicle the two were traveling in speeding through the intersection and going south on Sparks Blvd. before crashing into a tree.
The SPD Major Accident Investigation Team handled the preliminary investigation at the scene. The inquiry is ongoing, and anyone with helpful and relevant information should contact the Sparks PD Traffic Division on the listed line. Those who wish to remain anonymous should call the Secret Witness.
