A man who caused a DUI crash resulting in serious injuries was sentenced to six years in prison on Thursday, September 3. The man was identified as Geu Geron-Borjas, 48, of Crystal Lake.
The sentence was pronounced in connection with an accident that occurred in the McHenry County on June 1, 2019. Geron-Borjas was traveling on the Route 47 when he collided into another vehicle. His vehicle was identified as a Dodge Charger. The vehicle he struck was a Chevrolet Express. The Chevrolet had multiple teenage occupants in it at the time of the collision.

One of the teenagers traveling in the Chevrolet sustained serious injuries in the accident. During the preliminary investigations into the crash, police found that Geron-Borjas had been driving under the influence of alcohol. A blood test confirmed this when his blood alcohol concentration was found to be at 0.148, well above the legal limit.
Following the investigations, Geron-Borjas was charged with aggravated DUI. According to the prosecutors, Geron-Borjas had been previously charged with DUI as well. He had two prior DUI convictions on his record. At the time the crash occurred, he was operating a vehicle with his driving privileges revoked.
Judge Robert Wilbrandt handed down a six-year prison sentence for Geu Geron-Borjas earlier this week. The prison sentence is longer than a regular aggravated DUI conviction which is a class 4 felony in Illinois and carries a penalty of one to three years in prison. The stiffer penalties in this case reflect the prior DUI record of Geron-Borjas.
