As Romero approached Hanson Avenue, he lost control of his vehicle, hitting another car in the process. The impact of the collision caused Romero’s car to break apart and set fire. Romero was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was flung from the vehicle and was killed instantly.
Paramedics took the bystanders in the other vehicle to Riverside University Medical Center-Moreno Valley for treatment of the injuries they sustained. Their injuries were classified by personnel as being non-life threatening.
The Expressway was blocked to all traffic after the accident. The blocked lanes allowed for investigators to thoroughly inspect the area and compile evidence.
There have not been any updates regarding the two who were injured in the accident with Romero. Their names are not being released at this time.
