When the officers arrived, they found Brandin in the parking lot and tried to take him into custody. The suspect resisted, successfully entered his vehicle, and reversed. While doing the latter, the open car door struck the lawmen.

The officers sustained minor injuries and received evaluation at the scene from the Peoria Fire-Medical. The police later located the man near 99th Avenue and Beardsley Road and followed him until they could arrest him near Loop 101 and Glendale Avenue.

The PPD booked Brandin into the 4th Avenue Jail and charged him with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, unlawful flight, and endangerment. He also faces shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence.

The man would need representation from a car injury lawyer. Assaulting a police officer in Arizona often results in serious felony charges, and the specific elements of the crime will determine the severity of the penalties.

Anyone who assaults a police officer while engaged in executing an official duty faces a Class 5 felony, and if there is physical injury, a Class 4 felony. Possible punishments include prison terms between two to five years.
