A man lost his life in a collision with a car as he attempted to run across the Lake Shore Drive. The fatal incident occurred on Friday, August 21 as per the accident reports. The victim in the collision was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Freddy Subia, 32, of Uptown.
According to the details shared by the authorities, Subia was attempting to cross the North Lake Shore Drive on the 4800 block. He ran across the road towards the Montrose Avenue Beach. It was then that he was hit by a Toyota Corolla traveling northbound on the road.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours. It was reported to the authorities around 1 a.m. Once the first responders and paramedics arrived on the scene of the crash, Freddy Subia was rushed to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Attempts were made to revive him but these failed. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office ordered an autopsy, the results of which arrived on Saturday, August 22. As per these results, Subia had died from the injuries sustained in the crash. His death was ruled accidental.
Chicago Police Department continues to investigate the incident. The Toyota Corolla driver whose vehicle hit Subia stayed on the scene of the incident. Preliminary accident reports show that Subia was at fault and that no formal charges or citations are likely to be issued to the Corolla driver.
