A man lost his life after being hit by a car in suburban Steger. The fatal incident occurred in East Steger Road’s 1700 block. The victim was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Everardo Rosales-Urcino, 28, according to the accident reports.
As per the details shared by the authorities, the incident occurred on Friday, August 21. It is not clear exactly how the incident occurred. Steger police has not confirmed whether Rosales-Urcino was standing by the roadside or attempting to cross it when the fatal accident occurred.

The accident occurred at night and once the first responders had arrived on the scene, Rosales-Urcino was rushed to the Franciscan St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields. However, attempts to revive him failed and he succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at around 10:45 p.m. Autopsy results surrounding his death arrived on Sunday, August 23. The results revealed that Everardo Rosales-Urcino had died of his injuries, so his death was ruled accidental.
Authorities are yet to reveal many vital details surrounding the incident. For now, investigations into the incident are still ongoing. At this point, it is not known whether the driver stayed on at the scene of the crash, or if this was a hit-and-run. The identity of the driver has also not been released so far.
Investigations into the accident are currently being led by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. It isn’t clear why Steger police is not leading the investigations. Subsequent accident reports may show if any formal charges will be brought against the driver.
