Responding officers gathered that the victim, identified as Frank De Somma, 57, was operating a Jeep Wrangler along Carefree. The motorist suddenly lost control of his vehicle and drove off the highway seconds before the jeep flipped over near the I-17 interchange.
A witness told officers that before the accident, a vehicle turned directly in front of the jeep, which led De Somma to swerve to avoid a collision. The manoeuver reportedly caused the victim to lose control. The person behind the wheels of the other vehicle did not stop at the scene or report the car accident to the Phoenix police authorities but continued down the road in his vehicle.
Detectives have no information about this motorist, but witnesses described his vehicle as a red or orange car. An investigation into the traffic wreck is ongoing.
The Phoenix Police Department officials urged anyone with information about the crash or the other motorist to reach out to the department on their public lines.
