The truck driver struck the man’s car broadside, rolling over the tank he was pulling. The vehicle spun into a tree, with the driver’s side crushing against a tree, and leaving Latta with severe injuries. LifeCare transported the victim to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
He had broken bones and cuts to his head and face, but the driver of the pickup did not have any serious injury. The authorities later uncovered that Latta’s car’s brakes failed, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
The Bronson Fire Department was at the scene because the anhydrous ammonia is a hazardous material. The police said that all the safety valves were closed on the tank, but it had a damaged wheel. The Michigan State Police was present to help with cleaning the site and redirecting traffic.
The accident report also showed that the Branch County Sheriff deputies investigated the crash, and there’s no additional information at the time of this report.
