Firefighter crews said Monday evening’s winter storm brought high winds that strengthened the fire. After about two hours of battling, the fire was eventually extinguished.
Officials with the department confirmed that four firefighters suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Two who suffered minor burns and one who hurt their ankle were later released. The other injured firefighter has second-degree burns and is expected to need at least three days of hospitalization at UC San Diego Medical Center.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. We will monitor this story and provide updates as more information is released.
