Authorities said Slayden at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday was driving south on FM 346 near Bullard when he came upon a curve in the road. As Slayden was turning, he lost control of his vehicle, sending it off the roadway and into a culvert, which caused it to roll over, according to car accident reports.
Slayden’s vehicle finally came to rest on its side after it struck a tree, troopers reported. Emergency medical services personnel arrived on scene, but Slayden had succumbed to his injuries before he could receive treatment at an area trauma center, according to car accident reports.
The incident remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Investigators have not said whether factors like intoxication or inattentive driving might have contributed to Slayden losing control of his vehicle.
However, investigators did say Slayden likely was traveling at an unsafe speed at the time of the wreck. Authorities did not say whether additional details would be released in upcoming car accident reports.
Authorities transported Slayden’s body to a Tyler funeral home. Investigators did not say whether an autopsy will be conducted.
