At the same time, the driver of a Nissan sedan was southbound on Washington and entered into the path of the victim to make a turn onto Moore Street. The two collided and Longstreet sustained multiple traumatic injuries despite wearing a helmet.
He died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. The investigation into the occurrence is ongoing, and the Alton Police Department and the Metro East Crash Assistance Team are heading it.
Auto-motorcycle collisions mostly end fatally for the motorcycle rider due to the open design of the two-wheeled drive. While helmets and safety apparel go a long way in protecting riders, they must also ensure their safety by obeying the road’s rules, maintaining the speed limit, and riding without any form of impairment.
Motorcycle riders should avoid the blind spot of vehicles, avoid weaving in and out of traffic, ride defensively, and watch out for drivers backing out of parking spaces. Motorists, on their path, should avoid violating a motorcyclists right of way by yielding to them, and indicate when about to overtake a motorcycle on the roadway.
