According to the CHP, the speeding car struck Heaney’s motorcycle from behind, causing the two vehicles to go off the roadway’s west edge. They ultimately rolled over into the median. It happened around 9:45 p.m. north of Avenue F.
Responding paramedics conveyed the victim to a hospital for treatment, and there was no update on his condition as of Monday. The Honda’s driver, identified as Miguel Garcia, 32, suffered injuries and received treatment at the Antelope Valley Hospital.
The highway patrol determined that he operated his vehicle while under the influence of drugs and placed him under arrest. They booked him into the Lancaster Station Jail of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in place of a $100 000 bail bond.
Driving under the influence of either drugs or alcohol is a severe offense in California. If convicted, offenders face possible jail time, payment of a fine, revocation of driver’s license, and compulsory rehabilitation program. The severity of the punishment depends on whether the person is a first time or repeat offender.
