A driver has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run accident that occurred in Waller County on February 4. The accident happened around 6:50 p.m. only minutes from the victim’s home.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that 16-year-old Victor Carbajal was on his bicycle, coming home from his girlfriend’s house on Tuesday evening. Carbajal was hit only minutes from his own home. His sister said that if you go outside the ranch-style home and look at the stop sign, that was where he was laying. He was that close to home.

Troopers have identified the driver that hit Carbajal and took off as a 31-year-old Brookshire man named Daniel Griffin. Griffin was driving a 2000 Chrysler Voyager when he hit Carbajal and then drove off near the Buller and Zadelsky Road intersection.
The family feels like there has been some justice served now that the driver in the accident has been caught, but they know it will never bring the 16-year-old back.
Carbajal’s brother Jorge still cannot understand how someone could hit a young boy and drive away.
Carbajal was a student at Royal High School. He was active in the band and played the trombone. The teenager was very family and friend oriented.
Griffin is currently being held at the Waller County Jail. He is being charged with failure to stop and render aid at an accident causing death. The sentencing for hit-and-run accidents was increased with the implementation of House Bill 2502 in September 2019. Griffin is facing second-degree felony charges. The punishment for a second-degree felony in the state of Texas is incarceration in state prison for no more than 20 years and no less than 2 years.
