Donald Smith, 40, of Rockland Massachusetts, died in a head-on collision Thursday afternoon. The crash occurred at approximately 1:25 pm at the intersection of Centre Avenue (Route 123) and Spring Street.
Smith was driving his 2007 Nissan Versa westbound on Market Street when his vehicle crossed over into eastbound lanes of traffic on Centre Avenue. He was transported to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth where he was pronounced dead at 2:08 pm.

Smith’s 20-year-old passenger from Brockton suffered no significant injuries. The passengers name was not provided at this time.
Smith struck a 2005 Mercedes E320 sedan containing 2 passengers. After being transported and examined at South Shore Hospital, both passengers were not found to have life-threatening injuries.
It was not immediately known if Smith was under the influence of any substances, or if he suffered from any kind of illness that would have caused him to lose control of his vehicle.
Rockland police were requested by Mass. State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County district attorney’s office to assist in the investigation on the scene of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation at this time and the services of Mass. State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section have been assigned to assist.
