Police said a woman died Tuesday night after she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree on a Rock Island street.
Thirty-one-year-old Diana S. Johnson, a resident of Rock Island, died as a result of wounds suffered in the single-vehicle crash, the Rock Island Police Department reported Wednesday. Johnson’s vehicle was the only one involved in the incident, and car accident reports do not list any additional injuries.

Johnson on Tuesday night was driving in the area of 13th Street and Seventh Avenue when she lost control of her car, according to car accident reports. The vehicle crashed into several street light poles and road signs before striking a tree in the 1200 block of Seventh Avenue.
First responders arrived at the scene to render aid. However, car accident reports state she was pronounced dead before she could be taken to a trauma center.
Authorities have not released many details about what led to the incident. Investigators have not disclosed what they believe led Johnson to lose control of her vehicle.
Also unclear is whether authorities suspect the involvement of factors like inattentive driving, intoxication or speed.
Johnson was memorialized by several Facebook friends after her death was reported.
“We are constantly being reminded how short life is and we all have witnessed how rapidly things can change,” one woman, whose relationship with Johnson wasn’t immediately clear, wrote. “Love on people while they are here, because tomorrow isn’t promised.”
