The driver was driving at top speed as he approached a curve on the roadway. Gilmore was unable to stay on the road, and ended up entering the north side barrow ditch; it rolled several times, before coming to a rest on its roof.
Morgan sustained severe injuries, and the medics pronounced him dead at the scene at about 6 p.m. Another passenger in the unfortunate vehicle, identified as Mellissa Neff, also sustained life-threatening injuries.
The medics took the woman to John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth where she received treatment. The police said that Gilmore fled the scene of the accident and officers later found him with injuries. They took him to the same hospital as Neff, and there’s no update on the condition of the two.
The authorities have not stated if the driver would get cited, and are still investigating the cause of the crash. They asked residents of the county to report car accidents and drivers going beyond the speed limit.
