A man has been charged with felony over an accident which resulted in permanent disability of a victim. The man was identified by the authorities as Derek M. Adams, 51, of Houston, Texas according to the latest accident reports. Adams was charged on Wednesday, September 16 for an incident which had taken place more than two years ago back in August, 2018.
According to the details shared by the Illinois State Police, the crash involving Adams occurred in Union County, Illinois. Adams was driving a Freightliner semi-tractor trailer at the time. Investigations by the authorities revealed that he didn’t slow down at a stop sign. This caused his vehicle to collide with another vehicle.

The other vehicle had multiple occupants in it at the time. These include the driver, identified as Gylian Moore of Alto Pass, and two children. The incident caused serious injuries to at least one of the occupants, identified as one of the two children. The injured child incurred life-threatening injuries which subsequently resulted in a permanent disability.
Based on the investigations by ISP and other agencies, Adams has now been charged with one count of reckless conduct, which is a Class 4 felony, and one count of aggravated reckless driving. The second charge is also regarded as a Cass 4 Felony in Illinois.
Penalties for a Class 4 felony typically include a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years and a fine of up to $25,000. Derek M. Adams is due to appear before a judge on November 17. Subsequent accident reports may reveal precisely the punishment he receives at the hearing.
