The male motorist headed north on the highway when he crossed the double yellow lines in a curved spot along the road, placing him directly in front of oncoming traffic. The CHP said that the man tried to overtake the southbound vehicles, causing him to collide head-on with a 2018 Subaru Outback carrying two Aguanga residents.
Schulberg, a passenger in the Outback, sustained fatal wounds, which he succumbed to. The driver, a 50-year-old female, sustained severe wounds and received treatment at the hospital. A 17-year-old girl from Temecula traveling in the Challenger sustained moderate injuries.
The driver of the Challenger suffered severe wounds, and there’s no record of an arrest. The investigation remains active, and the CHP will release an update as events unfold. They advised drivers to avoid crossing the double yellow lines and maintain their lane.
Crossing the yellow lines is an offense under the California Vehicle Code. An offender would either get one point on his or her DMV driving record or potentially get a negligent operator license suspension if he or she receives a certain number of points within a given period.
