Authorities arrested and charged a Waco man, Darrell Wayne Hood, 63, on Tuesday, May 12, following a crash in East Waco, Texas. The suspect faces an intoxicated manslaughter charge and would need the services of a drunk driving attorney.
Police arrested Hood on the second-degree felony charge following the April 14 rollover crash that killed his wife, Wanda Hood, 69. Authorities booked him into McLennan County jail after he turned himself in.

The crash occurred on Dallas Street near Harlem Avenue and involved a single vehicle. Police reports showed that Hood was driving at about 11 mph above the posted speed limit. Witnesses said that he failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
The suspect also drove on the wrong side of the road for two blocks. He did this to avoid hitting a car that was legally turning into an intersection before the accident happened.
The crash caused Wanda’s ejection from the vehicle. She died at the scene, while Hood sustained non-life threatening injuries. Medics took him to a local medical facility for evaluation. There, the police obtained his blood sample for analysis.
The suspect initially declined to give a voluntary sample of his blood. The police had to get a search warrant for it. Hood later admitted to drinking a 12-ounce beer and one shot. The blood analysis showed that he had a blood alcohol content of .162% at the time of the crash, more than twice the legal limit.
Following his arrest and charge, the suspect would require a drunk driving attorney to represent him in court. The report gave no information about his bond.
