The victim crashed, and the impact ejected him from the vehicle before it rested on its roof. Medical personnel at the scene pronounced the man dead. Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said they are investigating to see if another vehicle played a role in the collision.
Speeding is a traffic offense in California and one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths. The state’s Basic Speed Law provides that drivers must never travel faster than is safe for current conditions and never faster than the legal or posted speed limit.
Regardless of the posted limit, drivers must consider the number and speed of other vehicles on the road and whether the roadway surface is smooth, rough, graveled, wet, dry, wide, or narrow. Also, consider the bicyclist or pedestrians on the road, and the weather condition.
High speed increases a person’s stopping distance; the faster a vehicle travels, the less time the driver would have to stop in time to avoid an accident. Drive slower when there is heavy traffic or bad weather, but don’t go too slow to impede traffic.
