A person without liability in an accident would be liable for a hit-and-run if they fail to remain at the scene of an accident. The offense also applies to those who strike a parked vehicle or stationary property and leave the scene without contacting the owner and leaving the necessary information.
Prosecutors try hit-and-run offenses either as a misdemeanor or a felony. Those convicted of the offense face imprisonment, payment of fines, and other punishments determined by the court.
