NATIONAL CITY, CA – Two people were killed after getting out of their vehicle following an accident in National City, local news reports.
The incident began when a man and a woman riding in a gray Toyota XA hit another vehicle on northbound I-805, in the area south of Plaza Boulevard.

Both occupants of the Toyota then got out of their car, jumped over the median and attempted to run across the lanes of southbound traffic. They were both fatally struck by different vehicles, the woman was hit by a Chevy Silverado and the man was hit by a Mazda sedan.
No other injuries have been reported from the incident. It is not clear why the victims attempted to cross the highway.
