The two, together with the little girl’s younger brother, Mason Rose, 12, were traveling in a motorhome westbound in the left lanes of State Route 36. At about 5:20 a.m., the vehicle for unknown reasons went off the roadway and struck a tree.
Emma and her brother were asleep in a bunk above the cab of the 2005 Tioga motorhome. Courtney, who was driving the vehicle, was trapped, and by the time emergency services arrived, she had passed away; the medics pronounced her.
The crash ejected the little girl from the motorhome, and left Mason Rose partially ejected. The medics took the siblings to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where Emma died while receiving treatment. The accident report showed that the boy is alive and showing signs of recovery.
Allen said the deceased little girl was a fourth-grader while her brother is in the sixth grade. She asked the members of the school community to continue to support the siblings’ family through their time of difficulty, and honor Emma’s joyful spirit.
The CHP did not release additional information about the accident, and the investigation into the cause is ongoing.
