CHP Officer David DeRutte said the initial crash report placed Craig on a BMW motorcycle eastbound on Annapolis when he lost control for unknown reasons. The bike went off the roadway and collided with a metal wire fence.
Sonoma Coast Fire crew arrived with paramedics and they attempted life-saving measures on the man. They were unable to save his life and pronounced him dead at the scene. The investigators believe foul play was not involved, and they have ruled out the involvement of drugs or (and) alcohol.
The California Department of Motor Vehicle Handbook states that motorcyclists stand a higher chance of surviving accidents if they wear the right gear. The latter covers a US-DOT compliant motorcycle safety helmet with face and (or) eye protection, free from scratches, resistant to puncture, and gives a clear view to either side.
It should also fasten securely, permit air passage, and allow enough room for eyeglasses or sunglasses. Additionally, wear protective apparel like leather or long sleeve jackets with reflective materials, over the ankle closed-toe boots, and full-fingered gloves.
