Motor vehicle accidents or traffic collisions occur when a car strikes a person, another vehicle, object, debris, animal, or tree. Common factors that lead to crashes are speeding, drunk driving, distracted driving, wrong-way driving, running red lights and stop signs, weaving in and out of traffic, and disobeying turn signs and signals.

Safety tips for drivers include obeying all speed limits and signs, paying attention and driving responsibly, seatbelt usage, and never driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. When at a stop sign, spell the word before proceeding and look left-right-left to ensure there are no red-light runners before going through an intersection.

Always drive with the headlights on for visibility, notice what is happening on the sides of the road, and check behind every six seconds using the mirror. Carry out a safety check, and there should be at least four seconds space between two vehicles.
