The CHP officials said that the man was pinned under his motorcycle as it went up in flames. The crash, whose report came in around 2:10 p.m., took place east of Edison Drive, and it affected several vehicles.
Oxnard Fire Battalion Chief Steve Reyes said that it also affected a roadside open-air fruit stand, consisting of canopy-style tents. Firefighters responded to a call about a structure fire, but bystanders had put out the flames before they arrived.
The fire damaged one tent and several fruits. Medics rushed Carnel to the Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition, and he remained there until his death around 8:23 p.m. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and anyone with helpful information should contact the CHP’s Ventura office.
The victim was a veteran stuntman with an appearance in hundreds of movies. He was a member of the International Stunt Association and has been nominated for a few awards, including Outstanding Action Performance in a Motion Picture.
Motorcycle accidents happen at the least expected time; thus, riders must protect themselves and promote safe road behavior. To achieve this, avoid weaving in and out of traffic, and ensure adequate space for lane splitting.
