After conducting a search, police were able to apprehend the suspect responsible for the hit-and-run accident. 50-year-old Charlette Anne Colton of Lakewood was taken into custody for suspected DUI. Toxicology results will have to confirm that she was under the influence at the time of the accident.
Colton was booked at a jail in Long Beach, where she is being held on a $100,000. Her current charges consist of DUI with injury and hit-and-run. At this time, it is not clear if she has hired legal counsel.
Police hasn’t released how they came to the determination that Colton was the driver of the minivan when the accident occurred. The investigation into the accident is still open. It is possible that Colton could be facing harsher charges if the condition of the pedestrians does not improve.
Updates will be published as they become available.
