Easley at 11:42 a.m. Saturday was driving a UTV east on FM 1861 about four miles outside Eustace, according to authorities. At the same time, 51-year-old Christina S. Zark, of Eustace, was eastbound behind Easley, car accident reports state.
Authorities said Zark moved into the westbound lane to pass Easley’s vehicle. Easley, however, was attempting to turn left onto Van Zandt County 2908 and the two vehicles collided, car accident reports state.
Easley’s UTV rolled and he was partially ejected, troopers said. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Car accident reports state that Easley was not restrained at the time of the wreck.
Zark also was injured, but she was treated at the scene and released, authorities said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. It is unclear whether authorities suspect the involvement of contributing factors like use of intoxicants, inattentive driving or speeding.
Troopers have not announced any criminal charges or citations in connection to the incident.
