Debbie Eulenfield has visited her nephew in the hospital every day since he was involved in a pedestrian accident along Saratoga Boulevard. Now the family is hoping that the city will take into consideration the lack of lighting along the roadway and make changes.
The accident Eulenfield’s nephew, 34-year-old Steven Hudspeth, was injured in occurred a couple of weeks ago. The man has been hospitalized ever since.

The morning after the accident she visited the accident scene. She was discouraged by what she didn’t see at the site. The lighting on Saratoga Boulevard creates dangerous situations for pedestrians.
Richard Martinez, the Director of Public Works for the City of Corpus Christi, takes every accident that happens in the city seriously. He has used Hudspeth’s accident as research and is working with energy partners to rectify the situation along the roadway.
Bay Area Hospital released statistics that indicated that 11 patients of pedestrian-auto accidents have been treated so far in 2020. Three of those victims were along Saratoga Boulevard.
Senior Officer Travis Pace with the Corpus Christi Police Department spoke of his accident involving an automobile. He stated that the driver of the vehicle that hit him was not paying attention and it cost him a broken leg.
Hudspeth’s injuries from the accident span his entire body. Both of his legs are broken and one of the knees is completely shattered. All the ligaments in his legs have been torn. His ACL was also torn in the accident.
He sustained serious brain injuries which include swelling and bleeding. Due to the amount of swelling on the left side of his brain, it has affected the functionality of his entire left side.
Eulenfield said that although Hudspeth has always been like a son, due to his injuries, he doesn’t recognize her right now.
The family is hoping that serious changes to Saratoga Boulevard take place sooner rather than later. They want another family to be spared the devastation they are trying to cope with.
