At approximately 3 a.m., 19-year-old Chad Torres flipped the Civic when he overcorrected. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Medical personnel that arrived shortly after the accident pronounced Torres dead at the scene due to injuries sustained after ejection from the vehicle.
It was the Tehama County Deputy Coroner Omar Farmer, who released the identity of Torres.
The California Highway Patrol has requested a toxicology report for Torres. Farmer suspects that a significant factor in the accident was alcohol consumption, but without a positive toxicology report, it cannot be confirmed.
Once the autopsy and toxicology reports are completed, the actual cause of death and blood alcohol content will be released for the report. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and it did not appear that anyone else was in the car with Torres at the time of the accident.
The California Highway Patrol is currently still investigating the accident. It is not clear where Torres was coming from at that time, but following the investigation, a clearer picture should be produced on the circumstances of the accident.
