Authorities have arrested a Texas man more than one year after he allegedly caused a fatal wrong-way crash in Smith County while drunk.
Twenty-two-year-old Caleb M. Marsh, a resident of Rusk, was arrested this week for his role in the December 2018 collision, according to prosecutors. The Texas Department of Public Safety said Marsh was intoxicated when he drove the wrong-way on a state highway, causing the crash that killed another driver.

Marsh was arrested Monday and is being held in the Smith County Jail. He will need to obtain representation from a drunk driving attorney as he negotiates the criminal justice system.
Marsh at about 11 p.m. Dec. 28, 2018, was driving west in the eastbound lane of Texas 64 east of Tyler, according to authorities. Marsh ultimately crashed into an eastbound vehicle driven by 43-year-old David D. Nelson, of Tyler, troopers said.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced Nelson dead at the scene of the collision, investigators reported. Marsh also suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators later determined Marsh’s blood-alcohol concentration was 0.129% at the time of the wreck, according to court documents. That is higher than the 0.08% legal driving limit in Texas.
Marsh was indicted on a charge of intoxication manslaughter by a grand jury in April, according to court records. He was taken into custody on Monday and was ordered held on a $150,000 bond while he awaits additional court proceedings. If Marsh is convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Court records do not list the name of Marsh’s drunk driving attorney.
