Authorities said two people were thrown from a three-wheeled motorcycle Sunday morning when they crashed into a deer on an interstate in Pike County.
Seventy-six-year-old Bobby Lewis and his passenger, 67-year-old Janet Lewis, both of Jacksonville, were wounded in the crash, which was reported at about 11 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 71, according to the Illinois State Police. Car accident reports state no other vehicles were involved in the incident and no additional injuries were listed.

Bobby Lewis at about 11 a.m. Sunday was driving his trike westbound on Interstate 72 near mile marker 1 when a deer ran into his path, according to authorities. Bobby Lewis struck the deer, causing he and Janet Lewis to be ejected from the vehicle, car accident reports state.
Emergency medical services personnel transported Bobby Lewis to an area hospital via ambulance for treatment, troopers said. Janet Lewis, meanwhile, was airlifted from the scene to a trauma center for treatment of serious injuries.
Authorities did not provide updated condition reports Tuesday evening. However, neither of the Lewises were thought to have suffered wounds that were life-threatening, troopers said. Both driver and passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the wreck, car accident reports state.
The Illinois State Police continues to investigate the incident. It is unclear whether authorities suspect the involvement of contributing factors like intoxication, inattentive driving or excessive speed.
