Auto-pedestrian crashes happen due to the negligence and recklessness of drivers and pedestrians. The two must work together to prevent collisions by promoting safe road behaviors. Pedestrians should walk on sidewalks, cross using designated crosswalks, and stay away from intersections.
Additionally, pedestrians must wear reflective and bright colors for visibility, use a flashlight when walking at night, avoid jaywalking, texting and calling when walking, and look to both sides of the road before crossing. On their part, drivers must yield the way to pedestrians, back out of driveways slowly and cautiously, and maintain the speed limit in residential, business, and school districts.
