Hicks at about 7 p.m. Sunday was riding her bike in the area of 32nd Street and Broadway Road, according to car accident reports. She was struck by a southbound pickup truck as she attempted to cross 32nd Street via a crosswalk at Broadway Road, police said.
Hicks was transported by emergency medical services personnel to a local trauma center for treatment of serious injuries. However, she ultimately was pronounced dead as a result of the crash, authorities said.
Investigators said the truck driver, who has not been publicly identified, was pulling a horse trailer when the vehicle struck Hicks. Police told local media outlets that the driver was issued a citation for running through a red traffic light.
Police said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The incident still is under investigation and authorities have not identified contributing factors, though police said they do not suspect the involvement of intoxicants.
Police did not say whether more charges or citations are expected. Car accident reports issued in the future likely will include additional details.
