The Texas Department of Public Safety released information regarding a fiery accident that occurred March 8 on Interstate 45. The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when a car stopped on the inside northbound lane near mile marker 109.
An approaching semi was unable to avoid colliding with the stopped car. The impact between the two vehicles caused sparks, which soon ignited into a fiery mess along the interstate.

The car became quickly engulfed in flames and the semi received damage from the fire.
Troopers have been able to identify the driver of the stopped vehicle. 25-year-old Deshaun Williams of Houston was severely burned and injured in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by emergency personnel called to the scene.
The driver of the semi survived the accident, but their injuries were not released.
The accident blocked all lanes of the interstate until the wreck could be cleaned up and hazmat could clear the scene. Around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday the southbound lanes were opened for travelers, but the northbound lanes remained closed for almost another hour.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was assisted by the New Waverly Fire Department, Jorgensen and Masters Recovery, the Huntsville Fire Department, and the Office of Emergency Management. All of the agencies helped clear the scene and the investigation of the accident.
An autopsy has been ordered because Troopers were unable to determine if Williams was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. This is an ongoing investigation.
