The driver allegedly stopped to look at what he hit before fleeing in the van across Mitchell, then east on Whitmore Avenue. The police said that the victim was unresponsive and without a pulse when they arrived at the scene.
Medics rushed Ishak to a hospital using a land ambulance, and he succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment. Witnesses described the driver as a Hispanic male in his 30s with short hair. He had a thin build and wore a white tank top.
The van was allegedly dark in color, but officers at the scene described it as black or dark green, possibly a Dodge caravan. The car had significant front end damage with a broken windshield and a missing passenger-side rear-view mirror.
The northbound lane of Mitchell Road closed from Roeding to Whitmore as traffic investigators collected evidence at the scene and took measurements. They also blocked one of the southbound lanes.
