Turner, who was driving a truck, had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection when, for unknown reasons, another vehicle broadsided him. The impact of the collision left the man with significant wounds that he died from at the scene.
The unidentified driver of the second car sustained moderate injuries, and the paramedics took the driver to the hospital for treatment. The CHP does not believe that either drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
They did not state if the person who caused the accident would get cited, and the investigation remains active. When an accident occurs, it gives rise to a criminal trial or a civil lawsuit, depending on the circumstances of each case.
When it is a criminal trial, the possible charges under California law are hit-and-run if the driver flees or driving under the influence if the driver is intoxicated. The others are causing severe bodily harm if there’s an injury or vehicular homicide if there’s a death.
A victim who survives or his or her family if the person dies can institute a civil lawsuit to recover damages from the driver who caused the accident. In either case, those involved would need to hire a car injury lawyer.
