Authorities are holding a man identified as Eulogio Torres, 21, after he caused an accident in South Taft, California. The collision caused a woman identified as Yvette Herrera, 21, to incur severe injuries. The suspect faces multiple charges and requires a drunk driving attorney’s services.
The crash happened around 5:30 PM on Thursday, May 28, at Wood and Lierly. The California Highway Patrol reported that Torres was driving a Chevrolet Cruze and heading south on Lierly. Herrera, on the other hand, was on the wheels of a Ford Escape SUV east on Wood Street.

The suspect ran a red light and smashed into the SUV. The force pushed the Ford to the front of a property, before it rested against a porch, with the Cruze close to it.
Herrera remained trapped in her SUV after the accident. Firefighters arrived at the scene and set about rescuing the victims. After cutting through a downed tree, they used hydraulics to find an opening within the wrecked vehicle and free the woman.
Medics immediately airlifted Herrera, who suffered multiple severe injuries, including fractures, to a hospital. There were two juveniles in the Chevrolet Cruze, but they were not injured.
However, Torres ran away from the scene after the crash. He was found some moments later at Tenth and Crystal by a deputy of the Kern County Sheriff’s Department. The deputy turned the suspect over to the CHP.
Further investigation into the crash showed that Torres also disregarded a stop sign at Crystal and Lierly just before the collision at Wood and Lierly.
Authorities booked the suspect on Felony hit-and-run causing injury, and Felony DUI. He is being held at the Sheriff’s receiving facility on a bail of $40,000. Torres needs a drunk driving attorney to help with his case.
