A three-vehicle accident in Sherman County has left two people dead and one injured in its wake. The accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on March 15, along US-287.
Based on preliminary reports compiled by the Texas Department of Public Safety, 34-year-old Arika Smith was driving behind a semi-truck on U.S. 287 going southbound. Smith entered the northbound lanes in an attempt to pass the semi-truck, but the path was not clear for her to do so.

55-year-old Diane Wagner from Butternut, Wisconsin, was driving northbound on U.S. 287. Both of the women collided head-on.
Smith’s car became airborne and collided into the semi-truck.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the accident.
Wagner had on passenger in her vehicle. Gregory Wagner was airlifted from the scene of the accident to the nearest trauma center for treatment of injuries he sustained in the accident.
After arriving at the scene, emergency personnel pronounced Smith and the female Wagner dead at the scene of the accident.
Details regarding the accident were minimum in the news reports. There was no update on the status of the male Wagner at the time of publication. His injuries were considered to be severe at the scene of the accident.
Police are still conducting an investigation into the accident. They have not speculated if they suspect Smith to have been under the influence at the time of the accident.
