Motor vehicle collisions on Illinois roadways occur for various reasons, and they often result from the negligent behavior of road users. Acts of negligence include speeding, running red lights, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or driving while distracted.
Road rage, illegal lane change, wrong-way driving, and tailgating are also acts of negligence. At other times, crashes happen due to factors beyond the control of the driver like animal sighting, adverse weather conditions, an underlying medical condition, and manufacturer’s defect.
Collisions are preventable if drivers desist from negligent acts and mitigate the external factors. Following safety tips like driving within the legal or posted speed limit, driving without distractions, avoiding red light runners, trying to beat the yellow light, and seeking alternative transport options also prevent accidents.
