A Ford F-150 driving northbound by a 45-year-old man entered the southbound lanes going the wrong direction. He hit Hinojosa head-on. The identity of the man has not yet been made public as of the time of this report.
Hinojosa and the driver of the truck were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Circumstances revolving around the accident are still under investigation by the Corpus Christi Police Department. It is unclear if this was an impaired driver situation or not. None of the released reports indicate if either driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Family and friends of Hinojosa gathered together Monday evening for a vigil in remembrance of the accident victim. It took place at the Airport Lounge on Norton Street. Hinojosa had been an employee of the lounge for over 10 years.
Hinojosa was described as being the life of the party and loved to be on the dance floor.
She left behind three teenage children. Hinojosa’s cousin said it has been particularly hard on the children and they have had to grow up faster than they should have.
Two separate fundraisers are being organized to help with the expenses for Hinojosa’s funeral.
The first will be held on Thursday, February 20 at the Dawg House Bar. An $8 plate gets you a sandwich, chips, and a drink.
The second is on Saturday, February 22 at The Knights of Columbus and will be a barbeque setting.
