When an accident occurs, those involved feel several emotions, including fear and panic. The two sometimes make a person leave the crash site, contrary to the California Vehicle Code’s provisions. Leaving the scene of an accident amounts to a hit-and-run offense, and the offender would face severe legal consequences.
If a person has no liability in an accident but leaves the scene without making a report or talking to the relevant authorities, he or she would also be liable for a hit-and-run offense. An offender can also face a civil lawsuit from a victim to recover damages for the loss suffered.
