A Honda was driving on the road at the time and struck Hennessey as he was crossing. Police have not determined if the man was inside the crosswalk at the time of the accident. The driver of the Honda stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated fully with the police.
Firefighters also responded to the scene of the accident. They were the ones who pronounced Hennessey dead at the scene. At present, his extensive injuries were determined to be the cause of his death.
There was nothing in the report that indicated the driver of the Honda sustained injuries as a result of the accident. It is unclear if impairment was a factor in the accident, but based on reports, police haven’t mentioned suspicion.
Further investigation is required to determine if Hennessey was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident. Drivers are supposed to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, regardless of right-of-way.
At this time, there have not been any charges or citations filed against the Honday driver. That does not mean that there will not be any once the accident investigation is concluded. As with any accident, suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
