The police said that a patrol officer found Eneyew lying on the roadway. It appeared that he was walking eastbound when a vehicle traveling in the same direction struck him and fled the scene. The coroner’s office scheduled an autopsy for Wednesday and will release an update once they have the result.
The MPD is actively investigating the case and trying to locate the hit-and-run driver. Anyone with relevant information should contact the investigators on the listed line or Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities if they wish to remain anonymous.
Under Illinois law, a driver who strikes a person, vehicle, object, or personal property like a signpost, fence or mailbox, and flees the scene without rendering help or leaving behind his or her contact details is liable to answer for a hit-and-run offense.
Drivers involved in an accident must tamper the instinct to flee the scene, remain, and report the occurrence to the relevant agency. Doing this would avert adverse legal consequences, including imprisonment.
